Ⅰ. Definition of HDPE Dual-Resistant Pipe

HDPE mining pipes are made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as the base material. They are produced through specialized modified granulation after adding conductive carbon black (anti-static agent) and flame retardants (e.g., decabromodiphenyl ether + antimony trioxide).

In addition to inheriting HDPE’s inherent advantages—such as high strength, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and light weight—this type of pipe also boasts anti-static and flame-retardant performance that meets relevant coal industry standards. Therefore, HDPE mining pipes are widely used in underground coal mine scenarios, including gas drainage, water supply and drainage, and ventilation.

Ⅱ. Characteristics of HDPE Dual-Resistant Pipe

• Flame Retardancy and Anti-Static Property (Core Difference from Ordinary PE Pipes)
Anti-static agents and flame retardants are uniformly integrated into the PE dual-resistant pipe during production, and its performance will not degrade over time. The pipe not only complies with the coal industry standard MT 558.1-2005 but is also particularly suitable for flammable and explosive underground environments.

• Lightweight and Easy to Install
With low density, the pipe is significantly lighter than steel pipes and fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) pipes. This makes transportation and installation more convenient, reduces the intensity of underground operations, and improves construction efficiency.

• Corrosion Resistance and Non-Scaling
In environments with high-sulfur water quality or containing calcium and magnesium ions, the pipe exhibits excellent corrosion resistance and non-scaling properties. This saves costs on anti-corrosion and descaling treatments and extends the pipe’s service life.

• Self-Lubricating Property and Flexibility
The smooth inner wall of the pipe results in much lower transportation resistance compared to steel pipes and FRP pipes, enhancing conveying capacity. Meanwhile, its good flexibility allows it to adapt to geological subsidence and complex working conditions. 

• Anti-Aging and Wear Resistance
The pipe has excellent anti-aging performance and can maintain toughness even at low temperatures. Tests show that its wear resistance is approximately 4 times higher than that of steel pipes, significantly prolonging its service life.

• Impact Resistance and High Toughness
It has an extremely low low-temperature embrittlement temperature, along with high elongation at break and impact resistance, effectively reducing the risk of damage.

• Flexibility and Easy Connection
The pipe features good flexibility, enabling easy bending in areas where curved pipelines are required. Additionally, mining PE pipes can be connected via methods such as hot-melt connection, pipe clamp connection, or flange connection, simplifying the construction process.

Ⅲ. Application Fields of HDPE Dual-Resistant Pipe

Due to its unique properties, PE dual-resistant pipe is widely used in various pipeline systems in underground coal mines, including:

• Gas drainage pipes

• Water supply and drainage pipes

• Spray dust suppression pipes

• Ventilation pipes

• Negative pressure pipelines

Beyond underground coal mines, PE dual-resistant pipe is also applied in special environments requiring flame retardancy and anti-static properties, such as the petrochemical industry and power plants.

These standards regulate core properties like flame retardancy, anti-static performance, and durability:

- ISO 4427: Governs PE pipes for water/gas transport, with provisions for modified variants (e.g., anti-static/flame-retardant) used in industrial settings.

- ASTM F714-24: Specifies PE pipes for mining/industrial underground use, including tests for impact resistance and corrosion—directly relevant to dual-resistant pipe validation .

- EN 1127-1:2019: Defines safety requirements for explosive atmospheres (e.g., mines), guiding anti-static/flame-retardant pipe design .

Certifications Pipes must obtain region-specific certifications to enter target markets:

- ATEX (EU): Mandatory for explosive environments (Zones 0-2/20-22), verifying anti-static/flame-retardant properties prevent ignition.

- IECEx (Global): Recognized in 60+ countries, ensuring uniform safety compliance for hazardous areas.

- MSHA (USA): Required for U.S. mines, validating resistance to flame and mechanical stress.

- Coal Mine Safety Mark (China): Mandatory for Chinese mines (aligned with MT 558.1-2005) for local market access.
