PVC-U vs. PVC-UH: What Makes Its High Performance Stand Out?

2025-09-12

As we all know, the most common PVC pipes on the market are officially called PVC-U pipes, short for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride pipes (also known as rigid polyvinyl chloride pipes). But then, what exactly is PVC-UH?

The "H" in PVC-UH stands for "High performance," so PVC-UH is the abbreviation of high-performance unplasticized polyvinyl chloride pipes. Therefore, PVC-UH is not a "new material" but rather a "performance-enhanced version" of PVC-U.

I. Where Does the "High Performance" of PVC-UH Lie?

High Requirements for Raw Materials

PVC-UH water supply pipes are made of high-performance PVC materials with a Minimum Required Strength (MRS) of ≥25MPa, which is much higher than the MRS ≥10MPa or 16MPa materials used in ordinary PVC-U pipes.

High Impact Resistance

Based on conventional PVC pipes, the requirements for hydrostatic pressure testing have been enhanced, and a pipe flattening test has been added—greatly improving the overall performance of the pipes.

High Connection Stability

Featuring a unique integrally molded steel-reinforced rubber ring socket with a dual anti-dislodgment structure, the rubber ring is directly embedded in the pipe socket. Under non-violent damage conditions, the rubber ring will not dislodge, enhancing the connection stability and sealing performance of the pipe.

High Construction Efficiency

A special process is used to integrally mold the rubber ring with the socket during the socket expansion process. The socket can be directly connected to the spigot, significantly improving construction efficiency.

PVC-UH water supply pipes are widely used in municipal and outdoor water supply networks, residential community water supply, indoor building water supply, and other fields. They can replace traditional pipes such as cast iron pipes, cement pipes, and PE pipes. With advantages like corrosion resistance, low flow resistance, and easy installation, they are becoming increasingly popular in water supply systems.

II. Is PVC-UH Only Available as Water Supply Pipes?

While the above introduction focuses on PVC-UH water supply pipes, PVC-UH pipes actually have another category: PVC-UH low-pressure sewage and drainage pipes.

Unlike PVC-UH water supply pipes, the advantages of sewage and drainage pipes focus on different aspects:

High Ring Stiffness

Made of high-strength PVC materials and optimized structural design, their ring stiffness is superior to that of traditional PVC-U drainage pipes, enabling them to better resist external pressures such as soil backfilling and ground loads.

High Sealing Performance

The pipe socket adopts an integrally molded steel-reinforced seal socket structure, which enhances the connection stability and sealing performance of the pipe.

Excellent Impact Resistance

They are not prone to brittle fracture, especially under low-temperature conditions, making them suitable for construction and use in various climatic environments, and ensuring safer transportation and installation.

With their excellent performance, PVC-UH sewage and drainage pipes are widely used in urban municipal drainage, domestic sewage discharge, rainwater discharge, residential community drainage, industrial park sewage treatment systems, underground utility tunnel drainage, road drainage, and other fields. They are particularly suitable for buried non-pressure drainage systems that require high structural stability and durability.

In summary, as a high-performance upgraded version of PVC-U, PVC-UH not only demonstrates greater pressure resistance, impact resistance, and construction convenience in the water supply field but also exhibits superior structural strength and sealing stability in sewage and drainage systems.
